ap=ad=去，point（-punct-）指、刺，點(diǎn)+-ment名詞詞尾。連起來就是指著某個(gè)人、點(diǎn)著某個(gè)人。我們想象一下電視里面的情節(jié)，指著某個(gè)人讓他去干啥事，這不就是命令嗎？有命令引申出委任和指令。
同時(shí)：還有另外一種理解：去一個(gè)點(diǎn)。這個(gè)點(diǎn)肯定是約好了的，而點(diǎn)還有準(zhǔn)確、準(zhǔn)時(shí)、掐點(diǎn)的意思，所以要準(zhǔn)時(shí)到那個(gè)點(diǎn)，引申為見面約會(huì)，但是這個(gè)約會(huì)不是男女朋友的約會(huì)，一般指的是商務(wù)上約好的一個(gè)時(shí)間點(diǎn)，大家都準(zhǔn)時(shí)見面的概念。再由準(zhǔn)時(shí)見面引申出預(yù)約的意思。
所以appointment主要有三個(gè)意思：任命、預(yù)約和約會(huì)。

engagement：普通用詞，可與本組的另外兩個(gè)詞換用。泛指任何商定的地點(diǎn)和時(shí)間見面，專指針對(duì)某一目的約會(huì)。
appointment：通常指嚴(yán)格根據(jù)時(shí)間表上預(yù)約的時(shí)間進(jìn)行的約見或約會(huì)，其目的主要是討論公事或業(yè)務(wù)問題。
date：主要指朋友之間的隨便約見或男女之間的約會(huì)。
單詞用法
appointment的基本意思是“約會(huì)，約定”，其后可接動(dòng)詞不定式作其定語；
表示“(什么時(shí)間的)約會(huì)”時(shí)，后面可接介詞at或for。
appointment也可作“任命，委派”解，后面可接of或as短語，在of或as后的名詞前不加不定冠詞。
