dream的基本意思是“夢”，指人在睡眠時在大腦中形成一種幻覺。dream還可指“夢想，理想”，指在人的頭腦中形成的某種愿望；用于口語中還可指夢一般美好的人或物，即“好極了，太美了”。引申可指“幻想”。dream通常指一個一個的夢，而不可以表示夢的總稱。作“夢想”解時可用于“dream of+v-ing”結(jié)構(gòu)。
表示夢想做某事，其后不接不定式，而接of doing sth。注意此單詞用法的否定式Little did I dream of succeeding so well.我做夢也沒想到會這樣成功。[這個短語高考考過幾次]
