end的基本意思是“最后部分”“末尾”，引申可表示“端”“盡頭”“梢”“終止”“死去”等。end還可作“目的”解，是可數(shù)名詞，說“達(dá)到目的”時(shí)?？膳caccomplish,achieve,attain,compass,gain,obtain,reach,secure,win等動(dòng)詞連用。end作“結(jié)局”“結(jié)果”解時(shí)可加不定冠詞。at one?s end的意思是“在那里”，指說話人或?qū)Ψ剿诘?，介詞at有時(shí)可省略。the end of sb的意思是“令人受不了”。

這些名詞均有"目標(biāo)，目的"之意。aim從本義"靶子"引申而來，側(cè)重比較具體而明確的目標(biāo)，但常指短期目標(biāo)。
goal指經(jīng)過考慮和選擇，需經(jīng)堅(jiān)持不懈的努力奮斗才能達(dá)到的最終目標(biāo)。
purpose普通用詞，既指以堅(jiān)決、審慎的行動(dòng)去達(dá)到的目的，又指心中渴望要實(shí)際的目標(biāo)。
end指心目中懷著的某種目的，強(qiáng)調(diào)結(jié)果而非過程。較正式用詞。
target指射擊的靶，軍事攻擊目標(biāo)。引申指被攻擊、批評(píng)或潮笑的目標(biāo)。
object強(qiáng)調(diào)個(gè)人或需求而決定的目標(biāo)、目的。
objective與object基本同義，但語義更廣泛，指具體或很快能達(dá)到的目的，也可指軍事目標(biāo)。書面用詞。
