這組詞都有“層”的意思。其區別是：
1.floor指的是與“ceiling(天花板)”相對應的地面，即室內的地面、地板；
storey與story著重指大樓層與層之間的空間，所不同的是storey是英式英語，而story是美式英語。
例如：The house has two stories（storeys〕.那房子有兩層。
2.在單詞用法上，floor前面習慣用on，而storey前面習慣用in。
例如：They live in one of the upper storeys.他們住在上面的某一個樓層。
3.在表示樓房有幾層高時，現代英語習慣用storey，而不用floor。
例如：There?s a nine-storey apartment building next to the bank.那所銀行旁邊有一座九層高的宿舍大樓。
4.表示房子的第幾層時，用storey（story〕時，層數叫法英美相同，“第一層(地面層)”英美都叫first storey（story〕或ground storey（story〕，第二層英美都叫second storey（story〕，其余層數依此類推；但用floor時，在英國“第一層(地面層)”叫ground floor，“第二層”叫first floor，“第三層”叫second floor，…，而在美國first floor就是“地面層(第一層)”，second floor為“第二層”，其他層次依此類推。

floor作“地面，地板”解時，多指房間的地面，可以是木板的，也可能是水泥、石頭的，甚至可以是泥土的。
